If you thought you were nourishing your child’s slice of bread by liberally coating it with olive oil spread, think twice before you do that next time! Like this, there are so many products that you may assume to be healthy, but can slowly land your child in to cancer, for reasons that you never knew were the cause!
Here are some of the alerts on foods and baby products, that need attention and should be eliminated from your little one’s regime.
Baby milk powders and fruit yogurts – you may be wondering what can be wrong with these angelic looking products? And the sad part is, parents are unaware about the MSG present in them. MSG which is hidden under 50 different names, exists in almost everything including infant formula, low fat milk, candy, chewing gum, drinks, over-the-counter medications (especially children’s), fruit yogurts, prescription drugs, IV fluids given in hospitals, and in the chicken pox vaccine.
Doughnuts, chips, crackers, cookies and French fries – It’s your kid’s birthday, and all that you as a loving parent would want to do, is to please him by having his favourite fries and doughnuts on the menu. Aww! you indeed love your child, but feeding him these is not the only way to express your love, right? These foods not only contain transfats, but are also high on preservatives like Sodium Nitrate and Nitrite. Sodium nitrite, when heated, creates nitrosamines. A study published in the January 2009 issue of “BioMed Central” found that children who eat processed meats more than once a week are at an increased risk of developing leukemia, the most common type of childhood cancer.
Canned Foods and plastic containers These are lined with Biosphenol A (BPA) which is carcinogenic in nature.Hence, try to avoid them. Look for BPA free milk bottles too. They may be slightly expensive than their cheaper BPA lined bottles, but the investment is worth it.
Mayo, ketchup, mustard, soda, fries, desserts, salad dressings, and bread products – Did you just pat your back for picking up a healthier bread, salad dressing or sauce by choosing to avoid sugar laden foods? Instead, you opt for those loaded on HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup), not knowing that is equally bad as that of white sugar. HFCS can not only cause cancer, but also affect the mental ability of children.
Now, on knowing the foods that are harmful for you children, I suggest you gradually reduce them from their diet rather than abruptly discarding them.
